Today, Tuesday 27th January 2015, Sierra Wireless announced the GX450 – its latest addition to the GX series. This highly anticipated product has been released worldwide, is available to order immediately, and provides an LTE/4G version of the existing AirLink GX400 3G gateway.
The GX450 is a rugged, secure mobile gateway designed to deliver mission-critical communications for in-vehicle applications, providing broadband connectivity to all devices and applications. It enables the extension of the enterprise network and management to the fleet; ensuring reliable, secure enterprise network access for mobile workers in the field.
Superfast, highly available LTE connectivity
The main advancement of the GX450 is the module it houses, providing access to state of the art 4G/LTE coverage, spanning 11 LTE frequency bands. This not only means faster connectivity compared to the 3G GX400 version, but also opens up the ability to power high-bandwidth applications.
While suitable for use across all vehicle applications, the GX450 is particularly suited for emergency vehicle applications. It can be used to power CCTV, dispatch/AVL, e-ticketing, and to deploy policing technologies such as license plate recognition – to name just a few.
The die cast aluminium housing meets IP64 levels of resistance to dust and water and it also exceeds the MIL-STD-810G specification for shock, vibration, temperature and humidity. In addition to this the gateway is protected against harsh electrical transients – all of which makes it perfect for in-vehicle application.
Secure mobile communications
The GX450 is feature-rich to ensure your critical data is secure. With up to 5 concurrent VPN sessions, you can secure communications to multiple back-end systems. Remote authentication management allows you to use enterprise-grade systems to manage access to devices in the field. Finally, port filtering and trusted IP protect the devices connected to your GX450 from unwanted access.
The GX450 is available in four configurations to provide vehicle-area connectivity tailored for each application environment.
- Base model; provides connectivity for wired Ethernet, Serial and USB devices in the vehicle
- Ethernet model; provides additional Ethernet ports
- WiFi model; provides an 802.11 b/g/n mobile access point for wireless devices and a Wi-Fi client for depot/station communications
- I/O model; provides 4 digital input/outputs and 4 analogue inputs to monitor external system events and sensor inputs
