The MP70 and GX450 Series: In-Vehicle Networking

The Sierra Wireless AirLink MP70 and GX450 are purpose-built for in-vehicle networks:

AirLink MP70: The MP70 is ideal for in-vehicle applications and features LTE-Advanced, Gigabit WiFi and Ethernet, plus built-in, vehicle-ready I/O for monitoring auxiliary devices such as sirens and can collect OBDII telemetry data.

AirLink GX450: The GX450 is also built for in-vehicle applications but should instead be used for specific requirements rather then to create an in-vehicle network which can support multiple applications in the same way the MP70 does. It is available in different models to suit such (WiFi, Ethernet and I/O).

Today, the AirLink MP70 should almost always be the lead product to position for in-vehicle networking.


The ES450: Parallel Networking and Failover

The AirLink ES450 is an enterprise gateway which is best positioned for parallel networking applications. Many applications such as digital signage, kiosks, vending and ATMs require connectivity for third parties to remotely manage them, but locations where they are positioned may not want to provide such access via their own network (due to potential security risks), or there may be no existing network available. In these instances, the ES450 can be used to set up a parallel or “air gapped” network which connects the solution independently of the location’s network provision.

The ES450 can also be used for 4G LTE failover to keep critical applications, such as Point of Sale, online when the primary network fails.


The RV50 and LS300: Ruggedised Internet of Things

The Sierra Wireless AirLink RV50 and LS300 are both highly ruggedised devices:

AirLink RV50: The RV50 is a low-power 4G LTE device designed for remote monitoring applications such as utility network management and other industrial use cases. With the same power consumption as a 2G device, but with 4G capabilities, it can run from solar or battery power comfortably – perfect for highly remote locations where other power sources aren’t viable. It is also available with LTE-Advanced, perfect for deployments where the connectivity solution needs to be future-proofed against application developments over time.

AirLink LS300: The LS300 is a 3G gateway perfect for industrial applications with small data packet requirements. Like the RV50 it is fully ruggedised and has a small footprint for simple integration into the application. It is also a great product selection for creating parallel networks which only require 3G connectivity, compared to the 4G LTE ES450, or where a more rugged gateway is necessary.


AirLink Management Service

The Sierra Wireless AirLink Management Service (ALMS) is a secure cloud-based device management application which makes it easy to deploy, monitor and upgrade your Sierra Wireless gateway and router estates. ABI Research has ranked ALMS as “Best in Class” among competing management services. It is provided free of charge for up to 15 devices, after which it is charged for on an annual subscription basis. It should be sold with nearly every Sierra Wireless deployment, especially where multiple devices are being deployed over a distributed geography, as it significantly reduces total cost of ownership.
